Huron ISD is proud to participate in Michigan's Handle With Care initiative — a statewide collaboration between law enforcement, schools, and mental health professionals to support children who have experienced potentially traumatic events.
Here's how it works: When a law enforcement officer encounters a child during a call, they send a confidential notice to the child's school — just the child's name and the words Handle With Care. No details. No labels. Before the next school bell rings, teachers and staff are ready to meet that student with extra patience, flexibility, and support. If more help is needed, mental health professionals step in.
A huge thank you to our Huron County law enforcement partners for taking that extra step — and to our educators and mental health professionals who respond with care every day. Together, you make a tremendous difference to a child. 🙌

Over the 2025–2026 school year, Huron ISD, Sanilac ISD, and Tuscola ISD partnered to deliver a 7-part AI Integration series for educators across the Thumb region of Michigan.
As we close out the year, the numbers tell a powerful story:
📊 75 unique educators participated in the series
📍 234 total seats filled across 7 sessions
🔁 73% of participants returned for 2 or more sessions
🏆 5 educators completed all 7 sessions
⭐ Near-perfect 4-out-of-4 ratings for content and presenter across our final sessions
The series — anchored in the AI Integration Framework — guided participants from foundational understanding through district-level implementation planning, building collective capacity, and long-term sustainability. Teachers, principals, paraeducators, and district leaders left with classroom-ready tools, working AI policies, and a regional peer network they can lean on for years to come.
A sincere thank you to Aaron Baughman, whose facilitation made the difference. Aaron met our educators where they were, adapted content based on real-time feedback, and modeled the kind of curiosity-meets-practicality mindset we want every classroom to embody. In the words of our participants:
"Practical and immediate use."
"I have a ready-to-go AI policy."
"I love his encouragement and direction."
This is what regional collaboration looks like when ISDs combine resources to give educators something no single district could deliver alone — a world-class facilitator, a shared regional vocabulary for AI, cross-district peer learning, and a sustainable framework for implementation.
Looking ahead: The 2026–2027 AI Integration series will be hosted by Sanilac ISD and remains open to educators across Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties. Registration details to follow.
Thank you to every educator who walked this road with us.
United Today. Better Together. Stronger Tomorrow.

Thank you for helping foster understanding, compassion, and care—our students (and each other) benefit every day.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bad Axe Naz Church for generously providing a delicious pulled pork lunch for staff at HISD, HLC, and HATC in honor of Educator Appreciation Week.

We love seeing our Huron Area Technical Center team wearing their mental health awareness shirts and helping keep the conversation going. From messages of kindness to reminders that mental health matters, these shirts represent something bigger—support, understanding, and belonging.
Thank you, HATC staff, for modeling empathy and showing students that it’s okay to talk about mental health—not just this month, but every day.

Through T‑Shirt Tuesdays, our educators are helping normalize conversations about mental health, modeling empathy, and reminding students (and each other) that support matters. 💬✨
We are so grateful for educators who care for minds and hearts—during Educator Appreciation Week and all year long. 💚🍎
Let’s keep the conversation going!

This week—and every Tuesday in May—our incredible educators are doing more than teaching lessons. They’re starting conversations, breaking down stigma, and showing students that mental health matters. 👕🧠✨
From wearing powerful messages to modeling kindness, empathy, and support, our staff reminds us that caring for our mental health is just as important as caring for our minds. 💬💪
Thank you to our educators for showing up for students (and each other!) every single day. 💚 We appreciate you—this week and always!

With guidance from their art teacher, students worked together to create this stunning sunflower art project inspired by Van Gogh. Each piece came together to create a bright, joyful display that’s now lighting up our hallway.
We love seeing our students’ creativity shine!

Larry the Lion joined the Secondary MOCI class, and fun was had all around as students enjoyed time together with their new furry friend.
